Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen on Friday strongly condemned the recent armed attack on Mulam village in Ukhrul district, terming it a “cowardly and inhuman assault” on unarmed civilians and warning that continued violence is eroding the state’s social fabric.

In a statement issued after the incident, Kipgen expressed deep concern over its impact, noting that several villagers, including women and children, were injured and homes and properties suffered extensive damage. She said the attack has shaken the collective conscience of society.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that such assaults on unarmed civilians pose a serious threat to peace and stability, and stressed the urgent need to break the cycle of violence affecting vulnerable communities.

Extending solidarity, Kipgen conveyed her support to the affected families and acknowledged the trauma endured by those who lost their homes and sense of security, particularly women and children who have been among the worst affected.
Describing the situation as critical, she appealed to all communities to exercise restraint and prioritise peace, cautioning that violence deepens divisions, weakens trust and hampers development.

Calling for unity, Kipgen urged citizens to reject retaliation and work collectively towards rebuilding affected areas and restoring harmony, reiterating the importance of a peaceful and secure environment for the state’s future.
