Shillong, April 28: The Shillong-Dawki road reopened on Tuesday morning after remaining closed for a week following the fatal landslide at Mawlieh on April 20 that claimed two lives. Traffic resumed at 8 a.m., offering relief to commuters and transporters, though regulated timings have been introduced to facilitate ongoing repair and slope stabilization work.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, Gautam Warjri, announced that daily traffic restrictions will be enforced along the Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem stretch until further notice. The road will remain closed between 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and again from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., with vehicles permitted to pass before 10:30 a.m.
Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution, particularly during heavy rainfall, and to avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services will continue to be allowed passage during closure hours to ensure public safety.
