The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat has announced the formation of seven committees for the 2026–27 term, effective from May 1, in line with the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
The committees constituted include Petitions, Privileges, Subordinate Legislation, Government Assurances, Empowerment of Women, Environment, and the Library Committee. Each body will consist of ten members drawn from the Assembly, tasked with overseeing specific legislative and administrative responsibilities during the one-year tenure.
Among the key appointments, Pongseng R. Marak has been named Chairman of the Committee on Petitions, while Marthon J. Sangma will lead the Committee on Privileges. Gavin Miguel Mylliem has been entrusted with the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, and Renikton L. Tongkhar will head the Committee on Government Assurances. Santa Mary Shylla has been appointed Chairperson of the Committee on Empowerment of Women, Rakkam A. Sangma will chair the Committee on Environment, and Jim M. Sangma will lead the Library Committee.
The constitution of these committees reflects the Assembly’s effort to strengthen oversight and ensure effective functioning across diverse areas of governance and legislative review.
