Shillong, May 12: Meghalaya Chief Secretary Dr. Shakeel P. Ahammed on Tuesday completed the self-enumeration process for Census 2027, marking another milestone in the state’s transition to a digital and citizen-friendly census system.
The exercise, part of the House-Listing Operations (HLO) that began on May 1, is designed to make census participation smoother and more efficient through the use of technology. Dr. Ahammed carried out the process via the dedicated self-enumeration portal in the presence of senior officials, including Commissioner and Secretary Dr. Pooja Pandey, the State Nodal Officer for Census 2027, and Secretary Swapnil Tembe, the Additional State Nodal Officer.
Officials from the Directorate of Census Operations, Meghalaya, including Joint Director Subhasish Chatterjee and Deputy Director Aibor Sanglyne, also attended the event. Their presence underscored the importance of the initiative, which aims to simplify data collection while ensuring accuracy and wider public participation.
The government views the digital census as a crucial step in preparing for Census 2027, with the new system expected to reduce manual errors, enable real-time data capture, and provide citizens with a more convenient way to contribute to building a reliable database for inclusive growth.
