Constable Suspended, Six Detained After Cash Display Video Goes Viral in Tripura

Agartala, May 18, 2026: Tripura Police have suspended a constable posted at Salema Police Station in Dhalai district after a video allegedly showing his wife displaying a large amount of cash surfaced on social media and triggered widespread attention.

Police have also detained six individuals, including the constable and another police personnel, in connection with the incident.

According to senior police officials, the action was initiated after the viral video, reportedly recorded on a mobile phone, came to the notice of the authorities. Following this, a case was registered and an investigation was launched.

The detained individuals have been identified as constable Pijush Debbarma, his wife Nandu Rani Debbarma, Ajit Debbarma (48), Menaka Debbarma (45), Rajesree Debbarma (38), and Sanjana Debbarma (34).

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with senior police officials on Saturday, Inspector General (Law and Order) Ipper Manchak Dnyonba said that police have started a detailed probe into the matter.

Officials said the investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the cash and the circumstances surrounding the viral video.
