Agartala, May 18, 2026: Tripura Police have detained a social media content creator for allegedly posting derogatory remarks against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media.
It is reported that the accused, identified as Shipul Majumdar, a resident of Ganjer Tila in Santirbazar under South Tripura district had been regularly creating content for various social media platforms. In one of his recent videos, he allegedly made objectionable comments targeting the Assam Chief Minister, which soon drew the attention of the police.
After the matter came to light, police detained Majumdar and brought him to Santirbazar Police Station for questioning.
Speaking on the incident, Majumdar claimed that the video had been created in the spirit of storytelling and not with any malicious intent. He also expressed regret over the content and apologised for making such remarks.
As a gesture of remorse, the content creator reportedly performed sit-ups while holding his ears inside the police station and appealed to people not to make offensive comments against anyone on social media in the future.
Police officials have not yet disclosed what legal action, if any, will be taken in connection with the incident.
