Itanagar, May 18: Rubi Lombo from Arunachal Pradesh has created history by becoming the first MTB coach from the state and the only female coach from Arunachal Pradesh, under the Sports Authority of India to be selected as one of the coach for team India at the Asian Mountain Bike Championships 2026 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, marking a proud moment for the state.
Hailing from the rugged hills of Anini, Dibang Valley, she is also the first woman from Arunachal Pradesh to earn certification as a commissaire at the National Road Cycling Championship.
Lombo’s journey from remote mountain trails to national arenas was powered by sheer determination. With every pedal, she shattered barriers and expanded the horizons for women in Indian cycling.
The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) has announced the Indian cyclists, coaches, and support staff for the National MTB Coaching Camp and the upcoming continental event.
The month-long national camp is scheduled from May 22 to June 20, 2026 at Shilaroo, Himachal Pradesh. Team India will then head to Tashkent for the Asian MTB Championships, set for June 23 to June 26, 2026.
Selections feature riders from across India, including the Army Adventure Wing, Air Force, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. The list covers Elite, Under-23, and Junior categories.
The coaching and support staff alongside Lombo for the tour includes Kulwant Singh, Prashant Bhatt, N. Lokesh, and Vivek Kumar.
