Guwahati, May 19: The fast-track court handling the Zubeen Garg death case concluded hearings on the bail plea of accused Shekharjyoti Goswami on Monday but reserved its order. The verdict is scheduled to be delivered on May 28.

Goswami, a bandmate of the late singer, has been in custody since September last year along with six others in connection with the case. Garg, 52, died on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore, two days after arriving to perform at the fourth edition of the North East India Festival.

Following the incident, the Assam Police CID formed a Special Investigation Team that carried out an extensive probe and filed a chargesheet in December. The document named seven accused, including festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, with four facing murder charges.

Earlier, the court rejected bail pleas filed by Mahanta and Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, citing contradictions in their statements and the gravity of the allegations. Goswami’s plea now awaits judicial determination later this month.
