Aizawl, May 22: The Mizoram government on Thursday introduced a set of measures aimed at conserving fuel and reducing expenditure in response to the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Acting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to cut fuel consumption and spend judiciously, the state has declared a weekly ‘No official vehicle day,’ alongside staggered office timings and work-from-home arrangements for a portion of its workforce.

According to the General Administration Department, 20 per cent of government employees will now work remotely, while departments have been instructed to implement the new schedule to ease fuel usage. Officials said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to aligning with national efforts to manage resources prudently during a period of global uncertainty.

The measures are expected to reduce dependence on official vehicles, lower fuel costs, and encourage more efficient work practices. Authorities emphasized that the steps were designed not only to address immediate concerns but also to promote long-term sustainability in government operations.
