Aizawl, May 29: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday chaired the Governing Body meeting of Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC & H) at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall in Aizawl, where members reviewed infrastructure development and healthcare expansion projects at the institution.
The meeting was attended by School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii, MLA Baryl Vanneihsangi and other Governing Body members.
One of the key issues discussed during the meeting was the condition of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Members noted that the department currently has only one doctor, who is managing both clinical and teaching responsibilities. The Governing Body stressed the need for immediate strengthening of the department.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing construction of the Critical Care Block being developed through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding. Members discussed the procurement of necessary medical equipment and measures to ensure effective utilisation of the facility after completion.
Several proposals aimed at strengthening and upgrading ZMC & H, which have already been submitted under MPLAN, were also taken up during the meeting. The Governing Body prepared a priority-based implementation plan, noting that all proposed projects could not be executed simultaneously.
According to officials, ZMC & H has added 30 new cabins and 13 ICU units over the past two years. A number of previously non-functional hospital beds have also been repaired and restored for use. With a total capacity of 517 beds, the institution has become the largest hospital in Mizoram.
The meeting further noted that 10 new postgraduate seats were introduced at the institution in October 2024, with nine students currently enrolled. The third batch of MBBS students has also recently completed their studies.
