A 35‑year‑old man from Assam died after being allegedly assaulted by villagers in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district. The incident occurred in Ramarajakandigai village near Vengal when the man, identified as Prasenjit Das, approached a house where two women were alone and asked for drinking water. Police said Das, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, got into a verbal altercation with the women. The women later informed their relatives, who, along with some local residents, allegedly confronted and assaulted him. Das succumbed to his injuries soon after.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital for post‑mortem examination. Investigations revealed that six young men from Assam had arrived in Tiruvallur a day earlier in search of employment, and Das had gone to the village where the incident took place. Three persons have been taken into custody for questioning, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, in Coimbatore, the abduction and murder of a 10‑year‑old girl has shocked the country. The child went missing on May 21 while playing outside her home, and police registered a case the same evening after receiving a complaint. West Zone Inspector General of Police R V Ramya Bharathi confirmed that two suspects were arrested promptly and said the case has been altered to include provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, due to the assault of a minor. She added that senior officers will conduct a preliminary review of the case in view of its sensitivity.
