Agartala, May 30, 2026: The Forest Department of Tripura, under the Tripura JICA Project (SCATFORM), on Saturday launched the Forestry Integrated Geospatial Solution (FIGS), a GIS and MIS-enabled digital platform designed to strengthen scientific forest governance, natural resource management, and livelihood planning across the state.

The platform was inaugurated at Pragna Bhawan by Forests, Science and Technology Minister Animesh Debbarma in the presence of Principal Secretary (Forests) and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force R.K. Samal, along with senior officials and stakeholders.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized that technology and nature must work together for sustainable development. He said modern tools such as satellite monitoring, GIS mapping, drones, mobile applications, and digital dashboards are transforming forest management and conservation efforts across the country. He urged Tripura to emerge as a leader in adopting innovative technologies for environmental protection and sustainable development.

The Minister highlighted that nearly 70 percent of Tripura is under forest cover and stressed the importance of data-driven livelihood planning for forest-dependent communities. He noted that FIGS would help identify suitable livelihood opportunities based on local geography, resource availability, and community needs.

The platform integrates GIS mapping, remote sensing, mobile geo-tagging, field-level data collection, dashboards, approval systems, and report generation, enabling real-time monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.

As part of the programme, 300 mobile devices were distributed to project officials and field staff to strengthen field-level data collection, geo-tagging, and monitoring of plantations, nurseries, water conservation structures, and livelihood assets.

Awards were presented to top-performing districts, subdivisions, ranges, officers, Community Organisers, and Livelihood Coordinators for their contributions to FIGS data updation. Four publications documenting the achievements and impact of the Tripura JICA Project were also released.

The event also featured the felicitation of Santanu Chakraborty, President of Neo Geo Info Tech Ltd., for his contribution to the development and implementation of the FIGS platform.

Officials said the launch of FIGS marks a significant step toward technology-driven, transparent, and efficient forest governance, supporting conservation, climate resilience, and livelihood security across Tripura.
