Agartala, June 01, 2026: In a significant push to position Tripura’s traditional textile sector on the global stage, a district-level consultative programme titled “Textiles for Global Markets” was held on Monday at the PRTI Conference Hall in Ambassa, Dhalai district.

The initiative, jointly organized by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the Department of Handlooms, Handicrafts and Sericulture, Government of Tripura, aims to develop a strategic roadmap to integrate the state’s textile industry with international markets. The programme aligns with India’s broader vision of achieving US$ 100 billion in textile exports by 2030.

The event was inaugurated by Textiles Minister Bikash Debbarma, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the formal commencement. Among the dignitaries present were Susmita Das, Sabhadhipati of Dhalai Zilla Parishad; Pratima Malakar, Chairperson of Ambassa Municipal Council; Ajit Shukla Das, Director of the Department; and Van Lal Dika Darlong, Additional District Magistrate of Dhalai, along with other officials and stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Debbarma highlighted the vast potential of Tripura’s handloom and handicraft sectors in the global marketplace. He noted that the consultative platform enabled meaningful discussions with local artisans and entrepreneurs on enhancing product quality, design innovation, and export readiness in line with international demand.

He further emphasized that both the Central and State governments are committed to unlocking this potential by strengthening institutional support, promoting skill development, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. The initiative, he added, is expected to empower the youth and artisan communities, fostering economic self-reliance while preserving the state’s rich textile heritage.
