Agartala, June 01, 2026: Tripura Legislative Assembly’s Chief Whip and Teliamura MLA, Kalyani Saha Roy, on Monday participated in a crucial discussion meeting at the Municipal Council’s conference hall to address pressing issues related to the ongoing National Highway construction between Icharbil and Korailong Choumuhani.

Highlighting public concerns, Saha Roy stated that the construction work along the highway stretch from Khowai to Agartala via Teliamura has led to the blockage of several pre-existing earthen drains. “As a result, with the onset of the monsoon, rainwater is entering residential areas and inundating homes, causing significant hardship to local residents,” she said.

To assess the situation on the ground, Saha Roy, along with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Executive Officer, representatives from NHIDCL and Siptech, Executive Engineer of the PWD, and engineers from the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) and Water Resources Departments, conducted a joint inspection at the affected sites. The visit was carried out in the presence of the Municipal Council Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and other councilors.

“During the inspection, we held detailed discussions on immediate and practical solutions, including the construction of temporary earthen drains to ensure proper water drainage between Icharbil and Korailong Choumuhani during the monsoon,” she added.

Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, Saha Roy noted that prompt and effective measures have already been initiated following the field visit. “We are committed to resolving these issues at the earliest and ensuring that residents do not continue to suffer due to waterlogging,” she affirmed.

Reiterating her commitment to public welfare, the Chief Whip assured that all necessary steps would be taken in coordination with the concerned departments to mitigate the difficulties faced by the people.
