As per the latest IIRF data, the university recorded an overall index score of 888.66 in 2026, marking a decline compared to previous years.
A year-wise analysis of Tripura University’s performance shows a gradual decline in scores, with the university securing 888.66 marks and the 47th rank in 2026, compared to 901.00 marks and the 44th rank in 2025, 897.86 marks and the 47th rank in 2024, and a significantly higher score of 929.99 with the 28th rank in 2023.
While the university improved its rank slightly in 2025, the overall score has declined from 929.99 in 2023 to 888.66 in 2026, indicating challenges in sustaining academic and institutional performance.
Despite these fluctuations, Tripura University continues to remain the top-ranked central university in the state, maintaining its regional significance.
The IIRF ranking framework evaluates institutions based on multiple parameters including teaching-learning resources, research output, industry integration, placement performance, and governance. Experts note that while Tripura University has retained its position within the top 50 central universities, the declining score trend suggests the need for strengthening research output, academic environment, and institutional efficiency.
Top-ranking central universities such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, and Jamia Millia Islamia continue to dominate the upper tier, highlighting the competitive landscape in which Tripura University operates.
Academic observers believe that focused improvements in faculty strength, research funding, and student outcomes will be crucial for Tripura University to regain upward momentum in future rankings.
