Manipuri Documentary ‘Battlefield’ Nominated For International Competition At MIFF 2026

Following its successful world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Manipur’s documentary film Battlefield has achieved another major milestone with its nomination for screening in the International Competition section of the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026.

The prestigious film festival is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from June 15 to 21, 2026. Directed by Borun Thokchom, Battlefield will compete alongside documentary films from across the world in the feature-length documentary category.

The documentary is produced by Manjoy Lourembam, Dr. Radhesyam Oinam, and Viswamithra Universals. Its selection for the international competition marks a significant achievement for Manipuri cinema on the global stage.

Speaking on the nomination, director Borun Thokchom said the recognition was a proud moment not only for the film but also for the state and the entire film fraternity of Manipur.

Established in 1990 and held biennially, the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is regarded as the oldest and largest film festival dedicated to non-feature films in South Asia. Organized by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, MIFF has grown into a major international platform for documentary, short fiction, and animation films.

The 19th edition of MIFF will feature grand opening and closing ceremonies, international and Indian competitions for the prestigious Golden and Silver Conch Awards, and cash prizes worth Rs 55 lakh. The festival will also include gala screenings, red carpet events, masterclasses, panel discussions, and the Waves Doc Bazaar.

According to festival officials, MIFF 2026 received a record-breaking 1,459 entries from 47 countries. The official final shortlist is expected to be published closer to the festival’s opening in mid-June.
