Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has flagged off a fleet of 55 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa initiative in Meghalaya, marking a step towards strengthening sustainable urban transport in the state.
The new fleet includes 25 buses of 9-metre length with 27-seater capacity and 30 buses of 7-metre length with 22-seater capacity. All buses are electric, have a range of over 150 kilometres on a single charge, and are equipped with wheelchair accessibility features to ensure inclusive mobility.
As part of the infrastructure development under the scheme, a dedicated e-bus depot is being constructed at Umsawli in New Shillong.
The initiative is part of the PM e-Bus Sewa aimed at promoting cleaner and more efficient public transportation systems in urban centres.
