Guwahati, June 12: A roadside tree collapse in Bhootnath area killed one student and left another critically injured after it fell on a moving scooter Friday morning.

Parismita Hazarika and Jyotimoy Mohan were on their way to Pandu College to sit for an examination when the decades-old tree came crashing down on their scooter near Bharalumukh.

Both were taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital with serious injuries, where Hazarika later died. Mohan remains under treatment.

The sudden fall triggered panic among residents and passersby, who rushed to help before emergency teams reached the spot. Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the tree to collapse.
