Sikkim’s Zuluk Wins ‘Most Instagrammable Landscape’ Award At India Today Tourism Survey 2026

Gangtok, June 16: Sikkim Tourism has received the “Most Instagrammable Landscape – Hairpin Bends near Zuluk, Sikkim” award at the India Today Tourism Survey & Awards 2026 held in Goa, according to a press release issued by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim.

The award recognises the scenic hairpin bends near Zuluk in East Sikkim, known for their Himalayan views and popularity among travellers and photographers. The recognition highlights the state’s efforts to promote tourism and strengthen its position as a travel destination.

The award was presented by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

The award was received on behalf of the Government of Sikkim by Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Tshering T. Bhutia, accompanied by Sonam Norgay Lachungpa, Chairman of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department.

During the event, Bhutia also participated in a tourism conclave attended by policymakers, tourism experts, industry stakeholders and representatives from across the country. He highlighted Sikkim’s tourism potential, citing its natural landscapes, cultural heritage, traditions, adventure tourism opportunities and focus on sustainable tourism practices.

According to the department, the minister also outlined the state government’s vision for tourism development through improved connectivity, eco-friendly initiatives and community-based tourism models aimed at supporting growth while preserving the mountain ecosystem.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhutia said the award reflects the combined efforts of the government, local communities and tourism stakeholders in promoting Sikkim’s tourism sector. He added that the recognition would help enhance the state’s visibility among domestic and international travellers.

The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department stated that it will continue to focus on sustainable tourism while preserving Sikkim’s ecological and cultural heritage.

The department said the recognition further strengthens Sikkim’s standing as a tourism destination and is expected to boost its appeal among visitors from India and abroad.
