Aizawl, June 18: Voting commenced on Thursday for Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha seat, with two candidates contesting the election. The ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has nominated its spokesperson K. Laltluangkima, while the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) has fielded advocate and writer Zothansangi Hmar.

Polling began in the morning and will continue through the day, as legislators cast their votes to decide the state’s representative in the Upper House of Parliament. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, which hold two and one seats respectively in the 40-member assembly, have opted to abstain from participating in the election.

The outcome of the vote will determine which party secures Mizoram’s sole voice in the Rajya Sabha, a position that carries significant weight for the state’s political representation at the national level.
