The President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Nagaland unit and state Education Minister – Temjen Imna Along noted that his party will maintain its coalition with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) for the 2023 assembly polls.

Addressing the mediapersons on Monday, Along remarked that the BJP leadership has complete faith in the coalition and the two parties will go for a pre-poll alliance.

The party’s central leadership has instructed the state leaders to carry forward this strategy, he said.

“The pre-poll alliance will be with NDPP,” Along reaffirmed, when asked if it was forming an alliance with the Naga People’s Front (NPF).

In order to contest the state elections, the BJP abandoned its alliance with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) in 2018, which was in power at the time, and teamed up with the newly-formed NDPP.

NDPP had won 18 seats, while BJP bagged 12 seats and formed the government with the support of two National People’s Party (NPP) legislators and one Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MLA.

An Independent MLA also supported the government, thereby defeating the NPF after 15 years of dominance in the state. The assembly elections are likely to be held in Nagaland early next year.
