Tripura has been recognized as the ‘Best Performing State’ under Special Category for successful implementation of the centrally-sponsored scheme – Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) Scheme across the state.
According to an official communique, “After evaluation by the Award Screening Committee, I am happy to inform you that State of Tripura has secured 1st Position under ‘Best Performing State’ category in Group-II.”
In addition, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has bagged the first position under ‘Best Performing Municipal Corporation’ category. Similarly, Kaisehar Municipal Council; and Jirania Nagar Panchayat both have secured first position under ‘Best Performing Municipal Council’ and ‘Best Performing Nagar Panchayat’ category.
It’s worthy to note that the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) had launched the PMAY-U Awards 2021 : 150 Days Challenge to recognize the outstanding performance of the States/Union Territories (UTs)/Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and beneficiaries in implementation of the scheme.
“The awards are proposed to be presented in ‘Indian Urban Housing Conclave’ to be organized in Rajkot, Gujarat between 17-19 October 2022,” – the communique further reads.
“Hon’ble Prime Minister has been requested to grace the occasion,” added the communique.
The purpose of instituting the Award mechanism was also to create a competitive environment for implementing agencies and motivate them for rapid progress.
Besides, the awards were broadly classified into 3 major categories – State, Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat Awards; Special Category Awards; and Beneficiary Awards.
