Manipur : Linthoi Chanambam To Compete In First-Ever ‘Khelo India Women’s Judo National League’ In Delhi

Manipur’s Linthoi Chanambam, the first Indian to win a gold at the World Cadet Judo Championship is all set to compete in the first-ever ‘Khelo India Women’s Judo National League’, scheduled to be held from October 20-23 at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi.

The league, a National Ranking tournament for women Judokas of 4 Zones, is being organized by the Judo Federation of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

It will be organized across four age groups – Sub Junior (12-15 years), Cadet (15-17 years), Junior (15-20 years) and Senior (15 years and above). The cash prize will be awarded to the top 7 judokas across the 31 weight categories.

Apart from Chanambam, the Silver Medalist of ‘Commonwealth Games 2022’ – Tulika Maan will also feature in the tournament.

A total of 496 Judokas will participate in the tournament. The competitors for the national league are selected based on their ranking and performance from their respective zones, i.e, North, South, East and West.

Besides, the top-ranked 7 Judokas selected from national selection trials and national judo tournament will also compete in the national league.

Its worthy to note that the 15-year-old judoka from Manipur – Linthoi Chanambam, defeated Brazil’s Reis Bianca by 1-0 to win the gold at the world championships in Sarajevo. Linthoi’s outstanding triumph made her the first from the nation to win a medal in the ‘World Cadet Judo Championship’ across any age-group.

One of India’s most promising judokas, Linthoi first showed glimpses of her talent when she won gold at the Sub-junior National Championships in 2018.
