The Assam Chief Minister – Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that the state government is to provide Rs 300 Crores for the infrastructure development of Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH).
Addressing the platinum jubilee celebration of AMCH in Dibrugarh, the CM commended the institute for its medical excellence.
Sarma paid rich tributes to Sir John Berry White, whose immense contribution led to the birth of NE’s first institute of medical education in 1900, and Gopinath Bordoloi, who played a significant role in establishing the present AMCH.

The CM also released a commemorative postal stamp, and announced the construction of doctors’ quarters & students’ hostel. He also urged the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences to institute an annual award, dedicated to Sir John Berry White & bestow it to the 1st MBBS position holder.
Further, the CM also flagged-off 9 Advanced Life Support Ambulances donated by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. He also congratulated the entire AMCH fraternity on this historic occasion.

The Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Labour and Employment – Rameswar Teli, state Health Minister – Keshab Mahanta were also present on the occasion.
