Agartala, November 11, 2022: Tripura’s former Health minister and incumbent Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Friday squarely castigated the four and half year old BJP-led coalition government for looting public money and massive corruption going on across the state.

Ahead of the assembly election slated to be held early next year, Tripura Pradesh Congress leaders held an open public meeting followed by a joining programme at Gandacherra under Dhalai district, which is about 113 KMs away from Agartala city.

Tripura’s former minister Roy Barman was the main speaker of the public meeting. He was accompanied by AICC secretary and Tripura in-charge Szarita Laitphlang, Pradesh Congress president Birajit Sinha, former MLA Asish Kumar Saha and others were present.

Addressing the rally, Roy Barman said that the people of the state are fed up with the rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party. “A muscular government is running in the country. During the four and a half years of the current government, looting and corruption are going on in the state”, he added.

“Today the youths are disoriented as the whole state is addicted to drugs. The brother of a central minister is the main hero of this drug trade. Being the brother of the Union Minister, the police are afraid to initiate any action. Various intoxicants are being smuggled from Tripura to Bangladesh under the leadership of the Union Minister’s brother. Even the government of Bangladesh has written to the central government of India in this regard”, alleged the Congress MLA.

Claiming no work in the hills and absence of food, Roy Barman said “People are dying of malaria and diarrhoea. The state’s health system has collapsed. State health centres have no medicines, no bandages, no saline, etc. When patients are admitted to the hospital, their relatives are compelled to buy it from the open market. The present government of the state is taking away the constitutional rights of the people of the state.”

Citing the pain borne by common masses, he said “The price of diesel petrol cooking gas has skyrocketed. Prices are increasing every day. The government is not filling up the vacancies. In the last 8 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not undertaken a single public-oriented project for the people.”

Former minister further alleged “There has been no development in Gandacherra subdivision in the last four and a half years. No electricity, no good roads, no jobs for the unemployed. Bharatiya Janata Party has cheated people in the name of change. All the Congress party will initiate whatever it takes to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party and liberate the people of the state in the coming days.”

Roy Barman appealed to the people to stay with Congress party for overall development of the state as this political party never cheated people. Currently, the people of the state are now leaving the saffron party and taking shelter under the umbrella of Indian National Congress.

Later in the joining programme, a total of 122 voters from 34 families joined the Congress party. Thereafter, at around two in the afternoon, the leaders of the Congress party left for Amarpur in Dhalai district.
