Tripura Police Held Octogenarian For Raping Minor Girl At Khowai

Agartala, November 17, 2022: An octogenarian has been arrested by Tripura Police on Thursday on the charge of raping minor girl who would be like his granddaughter at East Sonatala Village under Khowai police station in Khowai district, which is about 60 KMs away from Agartala city.

The Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Women’s Police Station Meena Debbarma said that the 80-year old man has been accused of raping his minor granddaughter has been arrested.

Reportedly, this morning, an elderly woman went to East Sonatala Village to break bricks to earn bread and butter for her family. She left her minor granddaughter at home. At noon, when the woman went home, she did not find her granddaughter. Later, the minor girl came out crying from the house of Basudev Tanti (80), who is popularly known as a grandfather of the locality.

After coming home, the minor told the whole incident to her parents and relatives. Thereafter, the whole family went to Khowai police station seeking legal help. Khowai Police Station staff referred the case to Khowai Women’s Police Station. The police authorities take up a case on receipt of a written complaint. Khowai Women police station registered the case 1/2022 under section 376(A)(B) of IPC and 4 of POCSO Act.

Khowai Women’s police station OC Meena Debbarma and Khowai police station OC Rajkumar Jamatia along with police constables went to the spot for investigation and arrested Basudev Tanti from his home in East Sonatala area. Later, it is learned that the minor along with Vasudev Tanti underwent a medical examination.

After the inauguration of Khowai Women’s Police Station on November 15 last, the work of police station started with this first rape case.
