Agartala, December 09, 2023: In a significant operation, the Churaibari police in Bazaricherra, Assam intercepted a six-wheeler container vehicle at the Assam-Tripura border, seizing packets of dried cannabis with an estimated worth of around Rs 50 lakh.
Pranab Milli, the in-charge of the Churaibari police watch post, revealed that the police, acting on a tip-off, successfully conducted the operation on Saturday morning.
The targeted vehicle, bearing the registration number NL02Q-8170, entered Assam from Tripura on Saturday. Upon thorough inspection, police recovered 637 kg of dry cannabis distributed in 91 packets hidden within various secret compartments of the car. The street value of the confiscated substance is estimated to be Rs 50 lakh.
During the operation, the driver managed to escape, capitalizing on the chaotic situation. The police have initiated legal proceedings against both the owner of the vehicle and the absconding driver, intensifying efforts to apprehend the latter.
Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of a specialized gang intending to smuggle the cannabis first to Guwahati in Assam and subsequently to Bihar, collaborating with a syndicate in Tripura.
The vigilance and anti-narcotics efforts by Assam Police have garnered praise from conscious circles in the area, reflecting satisfaction with the continuous crackdown on illegal activities. The ongoing investigation aims to unravel the full extent of the smuggling network and bring those involved to justice.
