Agartala, July 25, 2024: Tripura Pradesh BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee lauded the party’s significant success in the local elections, highlighting the substantial number of uncontested victories across various levels of governance.

According to official figures, the state boasts 6,370 seats across 605 Gram Panchayats. Remarkably, 4,704 of these seats were secured without contest. Additionally, among the 423 seats in 35 Panchayat Samitis, 244 were won unopposed. In the eight districts of the state, out of 116 Zilla Parishad seats, 20 were also won without opposition. The remaining 179 seats in Panchayat Samitis are scheduled for voting.

Bhattacharya attributed the BJP’s success in these uncontested seats to a broader transformation in the state. “The main reason behind our 71 percent victory in uncontested seats is that the state is moving away from nepotism. We are witnessing substantial development in infrastructure, including roads, drinking water, and electricity,” Bhattacharya stated.

He further criticized opposition parties for their organizational shortcomings, claiming that their inability to submit nomination papers reflects their weakness. “The opposition parties have resorted to financial inducements to field candidates, which is a testament to their organizational failure, not our success,” he added.

Bhattacharya did not shy away from addressing the historical grievances of voters, accusing the opposition of engaging in falsehoods. “People have not forgotten the 25 years of communist rule marked by terror. The rejection of Congress and CPIM in previous elections is proof of the public’s discontent,” he declared. He urged voters to continue rejecting these parties in the Panchayat elections, insisting that “communists need to be ashamed of their past actions.”

State BJP General Secretary Amit Rakshit and other party members were present at the press conference, which was organized to celebrate the party’s achievements and critique its political rivals.
