Gangtok, July 31: A curtain raiser program for the upcoming Freedom Run was organized by the District Administrative Center (DAC) Gangtok in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department on Tuesday. The event was held at the DAC Gangtok and was graced by Mr. Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, MLA, Gangtok as the Chief Guest.
The program aimed to create awareness about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) and the upcoming Freedom Run to be held on August 3, 2024, at Khel Ground, Reshithang.
Speakers emphasized the need for collective efforts to curb drug abuse and highlighted the importance of sports, reading, music, and other activities in diverting young minds from drug use to a healthy lifestyle.
A skit on “Nasha Mukt Sikkim” was presented, highlighting the trauma and support required by vulnerable groups. Cultural programs and thematic songs were also performed by school children.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Collector, Gangtok, DAC.
