Guwahati, August 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Assam, selecting Rameswar Teli and Mission Ranjan Das to contest the two vacant seats.

Earlier this month, Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita revealed that 10 members had submitted applications for the party’s nomination to the two Rajya Sabha seats, which were vacated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Kamakhya Tassa after their election to the Lok Sabha.

After a thorough discussion, the state election committee, attended by key political figures including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and state in-charge Harish Dwivedi, resolved to forward all 10 names to the BJP’s central parliamentary committee, which has the final say on nominations. Rameswar Teli and Mission Ranjan Das emerged as the party’s top picks for the Rajya Sabha battle.

The selection of Teli and Das underscores the BJP’s strategy to maintain its influence and potentially expand in Assam’s political sphere. With the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for September 2, the party is gearing up to secure both seats in Assam, reinforcing its dominance in state legislative affairs.
