Imphal, Nov 25: Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata stated on Sunday that the decision regarding his resignation would be made by God, adding that “people are God.” This comment followed a visit by a large group of constituents from his assembly constituency who urged him not to resign, despite calls for his departure from some protestors.
Satyabrata emphasized that the matter of resigning should be determined by divine will, while also acknowledging the importance of the people’s wishes. “Whether I resign or not, it should be decided by God and people are God,” he told reporters.
The Speaker also called on all legislators to work together to address the difficulties faced by the people of Manipur. He stressed that the government needs to understand the public’s hardships and take action for their welfare.
His remarks come amid growing public discontent and calls for the resignation of ministers and MLAs due to their perceived failure to restore normalcy in the state following ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which has claimed more than 258 lives since May of last year.
