Aizawl, Nov 26: The Mizoram government has decided to shorten the tenure of village councils (VCs) to ensure better management and utilization of state funds. Local Administration Minister C Lalsawivunga announced on Monday that the tenure of all village councils, except those in the three autonomous district council areas in the southern part of the state, will be reduced by six months. The new term will conclude on February 19, 2025.

Lalsawivunga added that the change was also made to adjust for the extension of council terms caused by the disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
