Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced on Monday that Arunachal Pradesh possesses 50% of India’s total hydropower generation capacity, positioning the state as a key player in the country’s energy sector. Speaking at an official event, Khandu highlighted the potential for hydropower projects to drive economic growth, estimating that the monetization of these projects could generate Rs 10,000 crore annually over the next decade.

The Chief Minister also emphasized that the central government has committed to granting the state a 26% equity share in each hydropower project, along with the 12% free power already allocated. He cited several major initiatives, including five hydropower projects in Shi-Yomi district, with a combined capacity of 2,626 MW, which will benefit the entire northeastern region.

In addition to hydropower, Khandu revealed plans to develop tourism along the Yomgo River in Aalo and announced the sanctioning of a road project connecting Jirdin and Eyi via Bumri in West Siang.

Earlier, Khandu inaugurated a Multipurpose Hall and a walkway along the Yomgo River in Aalo and visited Silluk Village in East Siang, which has won the Chief Minister’s Award for Cleanest Village three times. He assured residents of flood protection measures and additional medical support for the Mebo Community Health Centre.
