The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam is set to unveil a Vision Document on December 30, aimed at fostering peace, promoting development, and preserving the cultural heritage of the region’s 26 ethnic and tribal communities. According to Pramod Boro, Chief of the BTC and President of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), the document will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for addressing critical issues and driving progress in Bodoland.

Boro described the Vision Document as a “New Year gift” for the people of Bodoland. In an interview with ANI, he explained that the document was developed through consultations with a wide range of community members, including women, farmers, youth, teachers, and local leaders. The feedback was gathered through interviews, memorandums, and community interactions to pinpoint the region’s most pressing concerns.

The Vision Document tackles a range of issues, including the protection of language, culture, and land rights, as well as demands for better education, economic growth, and political recognition. One of its key objectives is to promote long-term peace and unity, aiming to resolve historical conflicts among various communities in the region. Boro emphasized that the document outlines both short-term and long-term goals, with local issues to be addressed by the BTC and matters requiring state or national intervention to be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

Environmental concerns such as forest conservation, water body protection, and biodiversity preservation are also a major focus. The document also seeks to address human-wildlife conflicts, particularly with elephants, while safeguarding the constitutional rights of indigenous communities, ensuring the recognition and protection of their cultural and land rights.

Reflecting on the success of the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord, Boro noted that the region has seen a significant reduction in violence and communal tensions in recent years. Under BTC leadership, peace and stability have been prioritized, with significant advancements in agriculture, education, infrastructure, and the rehabilitation of former militants.

Boro expressed hope that the Vision Document will provide a sustainable development framework for Bodoland, benefiting its diverse communities and contributing to the overall progress of Assam in the coming years.
