Kohima, Jan 15: Tripartite talks on the creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT), which includes six eastern districts of Nagaland, are scheduled for Wednesday, officials confirmed.

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), which has been advocating for a separate state, last month accepted a temporary proposal from the Centre. The proposal offers a certain level of autonomy to the region while further discussions on the matter continue.

The talks will be attended by representatives from the Centre, the state government, and ENPO, and will be held in Chumoukedima district. A.K. Mishra, the Centre’s representative, has already arrived in the state in preparation for the talks.

ENPO has expressed concerns over the region’s neglect in various sectors since Nagaland’s formation in 1963. The organization has been pushing for statehood since 2010 and recently boycotted the Lok Sabha and Urban Local Body elections in protest.

The Nagaland state Cabinet had deliberated on ENPO’s demand for the creation of FNT during a meeting on October 30. The six districts involved—Kiphire, Longleng, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, and Tuensang—are home to eight tribes: Chang, Konyak, Phom, Tikhir, Sangtam, Yimkhiung, Khiamniungan, and a section of the Sema.
