Guwahati, Jan 15: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Rani Chapori in Dharapur, Kamrup district, on Tuesday, where he witnessed the thriving cultivation of a variety of crops by local farmers on the sandbar of the Brahmaputra River. Rani Chapori, covering 705 hectares, is home to approximately 500 farming families practicing organic farming and contributing to a self-sustained agricultural economy.

During his visit, CM Sarma spent over two hours interacting with farmers, listening to their challenges, and assessing their agricultural practices. He assured that the state government would take steps to provide land pattas to farmers cultivating the area, which would help secure their land rights and improve their livelihoods.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges posed by soil erosion in the region, a critical issue threatening the sustainability of farming. He promised that the Water Resources Department would conduct a study and develop a plan to address this problem. CM Sarma also proposed constructing a bridge to enhance connectivity to the Chapori, which is currently difficult to access.

Regarding electricity concerns, CM Sarma assured the farmers that the government would install more solar lights and replace faulty solar pumps to ensure effective irrigation. He also pledged to improve access to modern farming equipment like tractors and strengthen marketing linkages to help farmers sell their produce.

Addressing concerns about petty thefts in the area, the Chief Minister assured that the River Police Force would be sensitized to deal with the issue effectively.

Later, CM Sarma attended the Bhogali celebrations in Garal, where he interacted with the local community, listened to their concerns, and assured them of prompt action. He also visited Garigaon Bornamghar and received a memorandum detailing local issues.

The Chief Minister concluded his visit by inaugurating the Debokanta Bhawan at Sadilapur and laying the foundation for its first floor. The Bhawan, located next to Kanai Thakur Namghar, is expected to serve as a venue for community meetings and spiritual gatherings.
