Guwahati, Jan 17: Assam is all set to host the inaugural Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) 2025 next month, a three-day event that will celebrate the best of Asian cinema with a special focus on the state and the North-East region. The festival, which begins on February 7, will feature a curated selection of films, workshops, and panel discussions, bringing together top filmmakers and industry professionals from across Asia.
Organized by Trending Now Media, GAFF 2025 will open with the Iranian film In the Arms of the Tree, directed by Babak Khajehpasha, and conclude with My Melbourne, a collaborative project by directors Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, Onir, and Kabir Khan.
The festival will showcase 22 films chosen from over 200 entries, representing countries like Iran, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Turkey. A special competitive section will highlight films from North East India, with awards for Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Performance.
In addition to film screenings, the event will offer workshops and panel discussions to inspire and support emerging filmmakers. Renowned industry figures such as Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage, National Award-winning filmmakers Utpal Borpujari and Manju Borah, and film critic Dalton Christopher will participate in the festival.
GAFF 2025 promises to be a vibrant celebration of Asian cinema, providing audiences in Assam a unique opportunity to experience a rich array of films and cultures from across the continent.
