Tripura Government Prepares for 16th Finance Commission Delegates’ Visit in State

Agartala, January 20, 2025: The Tripura government has initiated preparations for the upcoming arrival of the 16th Finance Commission, scheduled to visit Agartala from January 29 to January 31.

Additional Secretary of the Finance department Akinchan Sarkar confirmed that the high-level delegation of the 16th Finance Commission led by Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya will include members Ajay Narayan Jha, Annie George Mathew, Manoj Panda, Soumya Kanti Ghosh and Secretary Ritwik Pandey. “The commission will be in Tripura for a three-day visit, leaving on February 1,” Sarkar stated during a press briefing.

Sarkar highlighted the significance of the visit, noting that the commission will discuss the financial needs and development strategies of Tripura with the state government and senior officials. “Meetings are being held in phases to ensure comprehensive preparation for the commission’s arrival,” he added.

The commission will hold a key meeting with the Tripura Finance Department on January 30 to address critical financial issues and development plans. Following the meeting, the delegation is expected to visit prominent tourist spots in the region, including the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, Narkel Kunja and Chabimura in Gomati and Dhalai districts.

Sources indicate that the commission will also meet with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and hold discussions with representatives of Agartala Municipal Corporation and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. “We are looking forward to productive discussions that will benefit Tripura’s development and financial planning,” Sarkar concluded.

The visit highlights the state government’s commitment to engaging with the Finance Commission to address Tripura’s financial and developmental needs.
