Gangtok, Jan 24: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur held a meeting with Major General M.S. Rathore, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 17 Mountain Division, at Raj Bhavan on 23rd January. The discussion centered on important matters related to regional development and the ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ initiative.

The Governor and GOC focused on the promotion of battlefield tourism through the ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ program, which highlights significant military sites across India. They specifically discussed locations such as Nathula Pass, Doka La, and Chola Pass, which have historical importance, particularly from the 1967 India-China clash at Nathula and the 2017 standoff at Doka La.

Governor Mathur expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in ensuring the inclusion of these sites in the initiative, which offers citizens a chance to honor the sacrifices made by the Indian Army.

The Governor also raised concerns regarding the development of Dichu village, located near Doka La, following his recent visit. He directed the GOC to address the concerns of the local residents.

Launched on 15th January, the ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ initiative, a joint effort by the Indian Army and the Ministry of Tourism, aims to promote 77 important battlegrounds across India. The Governor assured his full support for the program’s implementation in Sikkim.
