Agartala, January 28, 2025: The launch of the “Water Save Project” under the PMKSY 2.0 initiative marked a significant step towards self-reliance and environmental conservation in tribal areas.

Speaking at the event held on Tuesday at Purba Noagaon Village of Hejamara Block in West Tripura district, Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the transformative impact of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) 2.0.

“Through this initiative, we are not only conserving water and preventing soil erosion but also empowering communities to become self-reliant,” said Nath. Highlighting the project’s focus on tribal regions, he added, “Tiprasa stands to benefit the most from this program, which is why we have prioritized these areas for its implementation.”

The PMKSY 2.0 project, currently active in 19 locations across 18 subdivisions of the state, operates with a budget of Rs 5.4 crore. At the event, women from self-help groups received Rs 50,000, coconut saplings, and various agricultural inputs to enhance their livelihoods.

“The Water Save Project is a cornerstone of this initiative. By promoting activities such as pond digging, fish farming, and pig farming, we are not only protecting the environment but also creating sustainable income opportunities for the community,” Nath explained.

The minister expressed optimism about the program’s impact, particularly for self-help groups. “These initiatives are paving the way for economic independence. I am confident that the common people will reap immense benefits,” he stated.

The launch event highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting agricultural growth and environmental conservation, showcasing a collaborative approach to addressing rural challenges.
