Agartala, February 01, 2025: The Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested two touts from Bamutia and Sidhai police station areas under West Tripura District at midnight on Friday for allegedly facilitating illegal border crossings from Bangladesh into India. The accused were presented before the court on Saturday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Agartala GRP, Tapas Das, confirmed the arrests and stated, “These individuals have been actively involved in assisting Bangladeshi nationals in crossing the border illegally for a long time. We have handed them over to the court today as per legal proceedings.”

Highlighting the recent crackdown on illegal immigration, Das further revealed, “In January alone, the Railway Police apprehended nine Bangladeshi citizens who had entered India illegally via Agartala Railway Station. Additionally, 13 touts involved in aiding such crossings were also arrested.”

Assuring continued vigilance, the GRP officer emphasized, “Our operations to curb such illegal activities will continue in full force to ensure the security of our borders.”
