Agartala, March 31, 2025: In a significant move towards public welfare, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated a subsidized mid-day meal service at just Rs 10 at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital on Monday.
Terming the initiative “historic,” Dr. Saha praised the combined efforts of the Health Department, Rogi Kalyan Samiti, and the Rotary Club in making the scheme a reality.
“Every day, thousands of patients and their family members visit AGMC and GB Pant Hospital. Many of them struggle to afford proper meals during long waiting hours. To ease their hardship, we have introduced this affordable mid-day meal service,” Dr. Saha stated.
The meal, consisting of rice, vegetables, egg curry, and dal, will be available at an exceptionally low price of Rs 10, ensuring nutritious food for the patient’s attendants.
Expressing gratitude to all stakeholders, Dr. Saha remarked, “This initiative reflects our commitment to public welfare. We are determined to take more such steps for the people’s benefit.”
Looking ahead, the Chief Minister revealed the government’s plan to build a shelter house for those accompanying patients, providing them with a comfortable stay during difficult times.
“Our government remains dedicated to introducing welfare-driven decisions,” he affirmed.
With rising summer temperatures, Dr. Saha, who also serves as the Health Minister, advised citizens to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
“Last year, we had to close schools due to extreme heat. While the situation is not as severe yet, we are closely monitoring the conditions. Doctors have been instructed to guide children on necessary precautions,” he added.
