The Election Commission of India is set to appoint the acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao as its ‘National Icon’ in preparation for the forthcoming assembly elections in five Indian states.
A formal ceremony to announce this appointment is scheduled for Thursday, October 26 , as per reports.
The election schedule is as follows:
- Mizoram: November 7
- Madhya Pradesh: November 17
- Chhattisgarh: November 7 and 17 (in two phases)
- Rajasthan: November 23
- Telangana: November 30
It has to be mentioned here that the role of a ‘National Icon’ involves inspiring and encouraging citizens to exercise their right to vote, raising awareness about the electoral process, and emphasizing the importance of every vote in a democracy.
