A high-level meeting on the “Clean Imphal Action Plan: My City, My Responsibility” was held today, bringing together key stakeholders under the leadership of RK Dinesh Singh, Principal Secretary (MAHUD), and the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC). The session was marked by a detailed brainstorming discussion with Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, focusing on strategies to transform Imphal into a garbage-free city.

The Governor emphasized the importance of adopting both short-term and long-term measures, urging MAHUD and IMC to work within a time-bound framework. Present at the meeting were Ng. Uttam, Director (MAHUD/IPR), K. Chandrakumar Singh, Municipal Commissioner of IMC, along with senior officials.

Discussions centered on enhancing the Solid Waste Management Plant at Lamdeng, improving waste collection, segregation at the source, transportation, treatment, and disposal systems. Plans were also laid out to strengthen the IMC by boosting manpower, upgrading machinery, acquiring modern equipment, expanding technical capacity, and securing financial resources.

The meeting further explored the establishment of an additional Solid Waste Management facility and proposed deploying police personnel to assist the IMC in strictly enforcing municipal bye-laws and acts. Other key initiatives included launching intensive IEC activities, organizing cleanliness drives and competitions, promoting public participation, addressing grievances, and advancing bioremediation of legacy waste. The agenda also covered construction and demolition waste management and the development of a new sanitary landfill.

The Governor’s call for determined and coordinated efforts has set the stage for a renewed push toward a cleaner and healthier Imphal.
