Seventh Session Of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Begins Today

The seventh session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) began on Tuesday and will sit for two days. After a one-day recess on 3 September, the session is scheduled to conclude on 4 September.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is expected to make an obituary reference to the passing of Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan, while NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer will pay tribute to former Assembly member Nungsangyapang.

The House will deliberate on key issues on the first day, including the Prohibition of Satanic Worship in Nagaland and unemployment. The Secretary-in-Charge of the NLA will report on the Governor’s assent to several bills.

Chief Minister Rio will introduce two new bills: the Nagaland State Finance Commission Bill, 2025, and the Nagaland Flood Plain Zoning Bill, 2025. He will also present a copy of the Nagaland Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules, 2024, as amended by the 2022 rules. Other reports are also expected to be tabled during the session.
