1,245 Militants Surrender in Tripura Since April 2023: CM Dr Manik Saha

Agartala, March 17, 2026: A total of 1,245 militants belonging to different banned insurgent outfits have surrendered before security forces in Tripura and returned to mainstream life since April 1, 2023, according to a written reply placed in the Tripura Legislative Assembly today by the minister in charge of the Home Department i.e. Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha.

The reply also stated that no fresh incident of insurgent movement has been reported in the state after the cut-off date mentioned in the query raised by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury.

Official figures showed that the highest number of surrendered cadres came from the National Liberation Front of Tripura Biswa Mohan faction, with 417 militants, including self-styled supremo Biswa Mohan Debbarma, laying down arms. Another 394 cadres from the NLFT Parimal Debbarma faction surrendered, while 223 militants from the NLFT ORI faction and 220 from the All Tripura Tiger Force also joined the surrender process.

The surrendered militants deposited 147 arms before the authorities. These included 93 country-made guns, 13 AK-series rifles, two carbines, six .303 rifles, four Chinese rifles, one Chinese pistol, one CM sten gun, eight pistols, four revolvers, eight single-barrel metal guns, one botamax, four Chinese grenades and two air guns.

The Assembly reply said that under the rehabilitation agreement, all members of NLFT and ATTF must surrender arms and related equipment, abandon violence, and refrain from secret activities. Possession of weapons after signing the pact will be treated as illegal.

For rehabilitation, each verified surrendered militant will receive a fixed deposit of Rs 4 lakh for three years and a monthly stipend of Rs 6,000 for three years. The Centre may also consider a special development package of Rs 250 crore over four years for tribal development in the state.
