Agartala, August 01, 2025: A 12-member delegation of the Tipra Motha party, led by Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Zonal Chairman David Murasing, is on a 2,500-kilometre foot march from Agartala to New Delhi. The march, launched under the banner ‘Janaganer Andolan’ (People’s Movement), aims to demand swift implementation of the 2024 Tripura Peace Accord and decisive steps to prevent illegal immigration from Bangladesh.

The journey, which commenced on July 5, has so far covered several northeastern regions, including a recent stop in Kokrajhar, Assam. Party leaders including former Tripura Minister Nevar Kumar Jamatiya, Tripura Assembly MLA Nandita Debbarma, Tipra Women Federation President Manihar Debbarma, and General Secretary Gita Debbarma are actively participating in the campaign.

Addressing the media en route, Murasing voiced sharp criticism of the central government for what he termed “complete inaction” on the Tripura Peace Accord, signed nearly a year ago on September 4, 2024.

“Eighteen months have passed, but not a single clause has been implemented,” Murasing said. “The indigenous people of Tripura have long struggled to protect their land and culture — through peaceful protests and, in the past, armed resistance. The government’s delay reflects a serious lack of political will.”

The accord was signed by the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and former insurgent groups NLFT and ATTF, with commitments for peace and development within six months. Its non-implementation has sparked growing resentment in tribal areas.

Murasing also flagged the unresolved issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh, saying, “Tripura’s demography has been severely altered over the last 75 years. This is no longer just a regional concern — it’s a national security challenge.”

He called for immediate and “iron-handed” measures from the Centre to curb infiltration.

As the Tipra Motha delegation marches toward the national capital, support continues to build among indigenous groups and rights activists across the Northeast. The party has pledged to continue its peaceful campaign until its core demands are addressed.
