Agartala, March 09, 2026: National Law University Tripura (NLU Tripura), Agartala, has commenced a 40-hour Mediation Training Programme specially designed for women community leaders across the state, marking the celebration of International Women’s Day.
The programme is being organised in association with the Rural Development (Panchayat) Department, Government of Tripura, with All India Institute of Mediation and Arbitration Skills (AIIMAS), New Delhi, serving as the training partner. The initiative aims to equip women leaders with essential mediation and dispute resolution skills so that they can effectively contribute to maintaining harmony and resolving conflicts within their communities.
A total of 25 women participants are taking part in the training programme. Among them, 15 participants have been nominated by the Rural Development (Panchayats) Department of the Government of Tripura, seven by the Office of the Director General of Police, Tripura, and three faculty members from NLU Tripura are also participating. The diverse representation highlights a collaborative effort between government institutions and academia to strengthen community-based dispute resolution mechanisms across the state.
Delivering the welcome address, founding Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Pratap Singh said the programme represents a unique and innovative initiative by NLU Tripura to bring mediation and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to the grassroots level. He noted that empowering women leaders with professional mediation skills would help enhance access to justice, promote peaceful settlement of disputes, and strengthen community leadership at the local level.
The training sessions will be conducted by experienced resource persons and mediation experts associated with AIIMAS, New Delhi. Participants will receive both theoretical and practical exposure to the principles, techniques, and ethics of mediation. The programme includes interactive sessions, role plays, and practical exercises aimed at building confidence and competence among participants in handling community disputes.
Through this initiative, NLU Tripura has reaffirmed its commitment to community outreach, legal awareness, and capacity-building programmes that promote access to justice and social harmony in the region. Registrar Prof. Nachiketa Mittal delivered the vote of thanks during the inaugural session.
