Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has stressed the need for an accurate census to enable effective planning and policy-making in the state. Speaking during the ongoing Legislative Assembly session on Tuesday, he referred to the upcoming 2026-27 census and warned that multiple entries could affect bank accounts, ration cards, and other official records.

The Chief Minister highlighted significant discrepancies in past census data, particularly from 2001 and 2011, and urged legislators to raise awareness in their constituencies. He also called for active involvement of district planning boards, civil societies, churches, and community leaders to ensure a more precise count.

Rio added that the state government plans to hold detailed discussions on the census to address these concerns and improve data accuracy.
