Agartala, January 31, 2026: The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) will begin a major eviction drive from February 3 to free city footpaths from illegal encroachments. Mayor Dipak Majumdar announced the initiative at a press conference today.

The mayor said the decision was taken at a high-level meeting yesterday to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain cleanliness in the city. He emphasized that the campaign aims to transform Agartala into a modern, well-equipped, and clean urban space.

Majumdar noted that complaints had been received about traffic congestion and public inconvenience caused by unauthorized vendors and illegal businesses. “Encroachments on footpaths and indiscriminate parking of vehicles and bikes are creating severe traffic jams. Strict action will be taken against violators,” he stated.

He further mentioned that the issue has already drawn the attention of the Chief Minister, who directed the corporation to keep the city free from traffic snarls.

According to the Mayor, the drive is intended for the benefit of the public, ensuring smoother movement and enhanced safety across the city.
